Serafin and I visited Tofino on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, in early October, 2009 (during the week following my niece Sandi’s wedding in Seattle). Anna, our neighbor of 20 years in Wilton, had spoken often of the area, raising our expectations to stratospheric levels, but we were not disappointed. The weather was warm and sunny most of the time, and our hosts Sarah (Anna’s daughter) and John provided a place to stay, plenty of good advice, and perfect hospitality, and it was a pleasure to see their kids, Reed and Chloe, again. Alas, were were only able to stay 4 days — what an amazing natural setting: old growth temperate rain forest, with gigantic trees and an extravagance of growth, abutting beautiful Clayoquot Sound on the edge of the Pacific.
